The vines originate from a Heritage clone of Syrah brought to New Zealand around 150 years ago. Produced from the gravelly soils of the Gimblett Gravels, this distinct Syrah shows an aromatic lift of floral and pepper aromatics with lushness and elegance on the palate. Deep red with a purple hue. Tremendous aromatic lift, with lavender and sweet cherries rising from the glass. The palate has significant density but a perfect balance that already encourages drinking.

Te Kahu means 'the cloak' in te reo Maori and refers to the mist that envelops Giants Winery in the Tukituki Valley. Legend has it that this mist was used to protect a mythical Maori maiden from the sun as she visited her lover Te Mata. This is a wine of richness and an abundance of black fruit flavours and a long structured finish. Deepest crimson red. Brooding aromatically with notes of cassis, black olive and dried tobacco enveloping a dense core of blue fruits. The wine has a lovely focus on the palate with dark fruits framed by fine tannins to deliver a classical structure with an excellent future ahead.

Handpicked from the higher terrace of the vineyard and fermented with indigenous yeast producing a wine with a silky layered texture providing interest and complexity. Burgundy in colour with a light crimson hue. Dried lavender and garigue, distinctly Te Muna perfume on the nose. An elegant palate with a warm core of brambled wild berries, porcini mushroom and red cherry in balance with the silk-laden tannins, which perfectly frame the wine. A decadent and indulgent expression of South African winemaking, crafted from grapes grown on the decomposed granite slopes of the Darling Hills, where cooling Atlantic breezes shape their character. A portion of the fruit is left to naturally raisin on the vine, lending richness and intensity before being blended with oak-matured Pinotage. The result is seductively smooth and full-bodied, with alluring aromas of Turkish delight, chocolate, red cherry and vanilla, followed by layers of plum, butterscotch and supple tannins. Rich, balanced and irresistibly moreish, it lingers long on the palate and pairs beautifully with berry or chocolate desserts, or savoury meat and pasta dishes.

This complex wine spoils you with flavours of raspberry, ripe red plum, vanilla, coffee, liquorice, chocolate and nuances of tobacco. It has an elegant structure with velvety tannins and a surprisingly lengthy aftertaste.
